Geoinformation mapping of modern gully erosion in the steppe region of the Russian Plain

Considering the linear erosion processes in river basins slopes it can be noticed that gully is most intensively changing relief, leading to complete soil cover destruction, and making land not suitable for agricultural use. The latest maps of gullies'development Russia were compiled more than 50 years ago seen as very outdated. Since time no comprehensive gullies network mapping has been carried out. Due gullies' shape their large size, satellite images allow noticing representation. study modern was out steppe east Russian Plain on an area 38000 km2. mapped using high-resolution (1.65 – 0.4 m). It allowed compiling electronic map density basins. areal dynamics morphologically active period 2003-2014 determined images. data obtained indicate a weak territory dissection by gullies. asserted majority peak activity already passed, currently they are either state dynamic equilibrium or being transformed into balkas. These results correlate with during earlier forest forest-steppe zones same region.
